1 Month Natural :)

Happy Memorial Day everyone!

I can't believe that I've been natural for one month! This month has been pretty easy for me. Washing my hair is fast and my hair dries really quickly. My hair is easy to detangle at this length, which is great. I'm trying hard not to become a product junkie (it's hard, there are so many products that I want to try) and keep my regime simple. So far I've been co-washing twice a week because I work out a lot and shampooing once a month. Going into month two, I might try shampooing twice a month...we'll see.

Current Length: About 2 1/2 inches or maybe a little more (when stretched)

My Go-To Hairstyles

This first month has been about finding styles that work for me. In the beginning I did mainly twists and twists outs. Then, I came across this video from Toliahli on finger coils. Since then, I've been rocking my finger coils and finger coil twist out. It generally takes me anywhere from 1 1/2-2 hours to do, but I love the curl definition. I've tried the "wash and go" and the jury is still out on that one. My hair looks more puffy than anything and tends to be a matted mess the next morning.

I'm looking forward to month 2.

Until next time :)!

Anyone up for a Castor Oil Challenge?

Hey everyone,

As most of you know, I incorporated Castor Oil in my weekly routine. My initial goal was to massage my problem areas, mostly around my temples, at least once a day. Then, I saw the Summer Castor Oil Challenge posted on Kinky Curly Coily Me's Facebook page and decided to join. Am I expecting my hair to be down to my waist at the end of this challenge? No. Do I think my hair is going to have this huge growth spurt? No. My main concern is stimulating growth around my temples, the areas damaged the most by my relationship with relaxers (almost 3 decades!). I've heard many naturals talk about their experiences with Castor Oil and I wanted to experience it for myself. For this challenge, I'm going to use Tropical Isle's Jamaican Black Castor Oil (aka JBCO).

To understand why I decided to use this particular brand, check out Curly Nikki's Battle of the Castor Oils.  I hope to share my progress throughout the challenge here.

Anyone interested in doing the Summer Castor Oil Challenge with me? Tell me your thoughts or experiences with Castor Oil by commenting below.

Until next time :)!

Figuring Out My TWA, The Honey Hut Beauty Bar Boutique & Blogging for TGIN

Hello everyone!!

Figuring Out My TWA

I can't believe it's been two weeks since my last post! Since my big chop I've been trying to figure out styles for my twa and a nighttime routine. So far, I've experimented with two strand twists and twist outs. I know it's hard to believe but my hair is just long enough to do it :). I've also learned that I have to twist my hair every night or I will wake up with matted hair (matted hair = a pain in the butt in the morning). I usually twist my hair while watching my favorite tv shows. We'll see how my nighttime routine changes as my hair grows. My goal is to try finger coils and some other styles with my TWA in the next few weeks.

The Honey Hut Beauty Bar Boutique

Have you wanted to try an all natural hair product but it's only available online? Or have you wanted to see/try a natural product before buying it? Now you can thanks to The Honey Hut Beauty Bar Boutique. This cute natural hair and body boutique had a "sweet opening" this past Saturday in Over-the-Rhine. Although products such as Shea Moisture and Carol's Daughter are sold in Target, there are other natural hair products sold exclusively online. I had a blast trying out some of the products and talking to the owners. They were so helpful and very friendly. Of course I couldn't leave without buying something...I couldn't help myself.

If you're in the Cincinnati area, definitely check out the store. Like them on Facebook  for more information about store hours and other news. I can't wait to go back!

My Exciting News

I'm happy to announce that I will be contributing to Thank God I'm Natural's blog. About a month ago one of my favorite bloggers announced they were looking for bloggers to contribute to the site. I decided to go for it. I've really focused on trying new things and stepping out of my comfort zone this year.

My first blog post went live this morning. Be sure to check it out! Hopefully you'll see more of my posts there in the future.

Until next time :)!
